Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is the basic communication language or protocol of the Internet. Every device connected directly to the Internet has a unique TCP/IP address.
TCP/IP is a two-layer program. The higher layer, TCP, manages the assembling of a message or file into smaller packets that are transmitted over the Internet and received by a TCP layer that reassembles the packets into the original message.
The lower layer, IP, handles the address part of each packet so that it gets to the right destination. Each gateway and router on the network checks this address to see where to forward the message. As TCP/IP was originally developed to communicate over very small bandwidth connection it is incredibly fast and efficient. For this reason, and for the fact it runs on virtually every modern computer system, it also used as the protocol in many local networks from client to server and for intranet systems.

The Telnet Protocol allows you to use the Internet to type another user's computer much as if you were sitting in front of it. This is known as 'terminal emulation.' Examples of Telnet services include searchable databases, bulletin boards and realtime chatlines.

The Tagged Image File Format was designed from the ground up to alleviate the problems associated with fixed file formats. TIFF did not evolve from a de-facto standard, it was created to become the industry standard for image file exchange. The richness of the TIFF format solves many of these problems, but at the same time creates a few of its own. The TIFF file structure is necessarily complex, more complex in fact than many of the proprietary file formats it was designed to replace. As the name implies, TIFF images make use of tags or keywords. These define the characteristics of the image that is included in the file. For example, a picture measuring 320 by 240 pixels would include a width tag followed by the number 320 and a depth tag followed by the number 240. TIFF File Format is a rather old standard, but remains popular today. It is a highly flexible and platform independent format which is supported by numerous image processing applications, scanners and virtually all pre-press software on the market.

TIFF/IT is the abbreviation of Tagged Image File Format/Image Technology. TIFF/IT is a revised standard for the exchange of digital adverts and complete pages. TIFF/IT files only contain bitmap data, no vector data. Based on TIFF, the format is highly flexible and a subset of standards has been devised called TIFF/IT P1. This is limited to CMYK work only, and does not support spot colours.

Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Since late 2009, users can follow lists of authors instead of following individual authors. All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS), or external applications (notably including those developed for smartphones). While the service itself costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees. The website currently has more than 100 million users worldwide. Since its creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Twitter has gained notability and popularity worldwide. It is sometimes described as "SMS of the Internet." The use of Twitter's application programming interface for sending and receiving text messages by other applications often eclipses direct use of Twitter.
